I have stayed twice at this house, once in 2015 and once in 2016.
I didnt have anything other than coffee for breakfast (my preference) so cannot speak to the quality of food.
The wide pine boards of the floors, the huge kitchen hearth, the original front door—these are all details that evoke the 1830’s. Bathrooms are later additions to the house and have been sensitively placed and outfitted. They do not intrude on the historic feel of this house.
The house is an amazing because it is so well preserved. It is an early Missouri farm house. Please don't expect here the rich interiors of late 19th century houses that are typical in, say, St. Louis. This was the home of a well to do farmer, and the materials and ornamentation are simple and practical to serve his needs. Also, the house is a generation older than the rich houses of St Louis, so stylistically they differ.
Such a nice place. We stayed after a 20 mile hike on the Katy Trail and enjoyed the town and the house. Breakfast was great, the people were friendly, just what you want in a b and b.
Despite Yelp comments saying this is closed, it is not. A friend and I just stayed there and had a very nice stay and a delicious breakfast. At the moment, the email address does not work. Use the number on his web site ending in 3555.
